Direct Rreduced Iron (DRI), also called sponge iron,is produced from direct reduction of iron ore (in the form of lumps, pellets or fines) by a reducing gas produced from natural gas or coal.

Iron ore pellets
Iron ore pellets are spheres of typically 6.3–16 mm (0.31–0.71) to be used as raw material for blast furnaces. They typically contain 65.5% min Fe(for Midrex process) and various additional material adjusting the chemical composition and the metallurgic properties of the pellets. Typically limestone, dolostone and olivine is added and Bentonite is used as binder.
